About Me

Hello, my name is Michael Hickman, I was born in the county of Yorkshire, England. As a child, my late sister introduced me to adventure. In my teens, I started cycle touring, in and around Yorkshire. Today, I live and work in Thailand, cycling still takes up a large part of my free time.  I love nothing more than exploring my surroundings, and further afield. There is always something new and exciting to discover.

Lumpini Park is a beautiful area of Bangkok. It gave me the inspiration to write this fictitious romantic adventure story. Anybody who has visited Lumpini Park will tell you that it is such a delightful park, that attracts cyclists, runners, families from every walks of life. It also has some interesting creatures that lounge around many of the artificial lakes that makes Lumpini Park such a wonderful place to venture to, bearing in mind that it is smack bang in the centre of Bangkok, surrounded by concrete and steel and the elevated railway systems (the BTS).

I love nothing more than visiting ornate temple complexes, old villages that have been preserved to look as they did when they were originally built. Bangkok, thankfully has many of these and so do the surrounding provinces. I have been caught many times with paper and pen, just writing down what I see, hear, and smell and if it comes to it taste and feel. This, to me is what makes my writing work for me.

When I wrote Lumpini Park, I even stayed at two of the hotel featured in the story. Just to get the feel of the places and the surrounding area. Writing, while on the move is exciting. There is a lot of descriptive writing in Lumpini Park, allowing the reader to feel the sense of being there. I loved writing this story, even though admittedly has I wrote it Bangkok was speedily continuing to be developed. The story is told as Bangkok looked between 2009 and 2010.

If you want a delightful novel to read that will captivate you, then Lumpini Park is the book to read. In the beginning it sets the scene and what Michael, the protagonist, is up against, not to mention what he left behind in the UK.
